Performed as part of the Melbourne Fringe 2017 Season at Testing Grounds.
oneSELF explores the notion of identity through the lens of one performer. To what extent does one recognise themselves? What does it mean to feel associated or disassociated with facets of your identity? Sound and movement originating from the single body is manipulated, replayed, re-framed and distorted, appearing in the space as live soundscapes, projection and movement.
oneSELF addresses the very fabric of identity, and how we relate to who we are – our gender, our sexuality, our heritage, our culture, our experience, our spirituality, our oneSELF.
Choreography & Performance: Isabella Mason
Projections: Edward Dann
Sound Design: Andy O'Connor
Praise For oneSELF:
"Dark synthwave swells under a tense, minimalist movement language built from postures of visceral insecurity and self-doubt. The musical, digital and choreographic talents behind it don't fail to impress." - The Age
"Andy O’Connor has created a soundscape that at times perforates the choreography and physical plane and at other times falls into submission.
This is a really solid performance which delivers the audience something more than just dance. Unflinching, raw, brutalist, gentle and floating." - Melbourne Critique
